Formation Circle exists to equip and serve individuals in their own spiritual journeys.
Our spiritual directors, media, and events offer companionship + invitations for assenting to the work we're all called to do: the work of personal and spiritual transformation.
Who We Are
SAMUEL OGLES
With a background in media, communications, and finance, Sam is a certified spiritual director and Enneagram teacher. His mission is to empower others with deeper insight and a vision for change.
Formation
Sam is an ecumenical Christian with both evangelical Protestant and Catholic roots. He's studied world religions and Catholic theology. He has experience with Ignatian and Franciscan spiritualities and is an alumnus of Richard Rohr's Living School for Action and Contemplation and Ruth Haley Barton's Transforming Community. He received certification in spiritual direction from Sacred Journey Spiritual Companioning in West Dundee, Illinois.

Spiritual Direction
Sam is privileged to walk with others as a spiritual companion in the practice of spiritual direction. In this role, he feels called to work with a diverse group of people from all backgrounds and experiences. His particular areas of interest for spiritual direction include spiritual growth, the Enneagram, "deconstruction," ecumenism, meditation, mental health in spirituality, sexuality, and changing religious beliefs/identity. He especially loves walking with people in places and seasons where they feel alone, stuck, uncertain, or misunderstood.

Enneagram
Sam has been working with the Enneagram for over a decade and learned the Enneagram studying under Fr. Richard Rohr. He's also received direct training from Russ Hudson, Christopher Heuertz, Tom Condon, Linda Roberts, Michael Naylor, and Clare and Scott Loughrige. Sam offers Enneagram workshops nationwide and is certified in the "iEnneagram" system, an International Enneagram Association (IEA) accredited training program.

Sam lives with his spouse, Katie, and their Great Danoodle dog, Ozzie, in the western suburbs of Chicago.

MATTIE KAHN
Mattie is passionate about helping individuals experience the presence of God in the context of their ordinary, everyday lives. He considers it an immense privilege to partner in the sacred space of spiritual direction.
Much of Mattie's spiritual journey is characterized by a deep desire to integrate his Protestant upbringing with the meaningful and vibrant traditions of the historical and ecumenical Christian church. He currently serves as the Ministry Director of Small Groups at a non-denominational congregation in Southeastern Wisconsin. After graduating with his BBA in 2018, Mattie went on to receive Spiritual Direction training and certification through Kairos University.
While Mattie works with people from all walks of life, his specific areas of interest include: spiritual formation, developing a rule of life, the integration of faith and work, flourishing in vocational ministry, and family life (parenting/marriage).
Mattie lives with his wife and two young boys in the northern suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In his free time, he enjoys reading and fishing.

SARANELL HARTMAN
Saranell is passionate about God’s beauty, truth and goodness being made manifest in the world by the way we live our lives. She believes that what goes deepest within goes widest to the world.
She has served the Church as youth pastor, church planter, and retreat leader. She is a certified spiritual director, and as an ordained minister she serves as co-leader of The Kaleid Project, a spiritual formation initiative in Atlanta, GA.
Saranell studied Psychology and Christian Education (BA, Wheaton College) and Theology (MDiv, Fuller Theological Seminary). She has a certificate in spiritual direction (The Shalem Institute).
Saranell lives with her spouse, Tim, 3 teens, and a brood of hens in Decatur, GA. All things Spanish delight her soul, and she is a champion of the spiritual discipline of celebration. In her free time, she loves paddle boarding, hiking, and hanging out on her screened-in porch.
